Vintage style paper clips for in my Travelers notebook...

Today in my travelers notebook I wanted to make some vintage paper clips to add into my journal. I have some wonderful images from the graphics fairy left over that I still want to use. I am really liking the Kraft coloured paper and doing this collage. I am wanting to incorporate a few other things into this as I have been busy making all sorts of things after watching Nik the booksmith, ArtyMaze and Tracy Fox love junk journals on Youtube. Such fun tutorials to watch. They have some awesome free images on the web sites that I have downloaded to use.

I ended up getting these bigger paper clips this week after watching a few people making little tags with them and thought they would be fun to add into my journal.

I have worked on this page over the last few days just adding bits and pieces here and there when I had a bit of time. I really like doing all the blending with the vintage distress inks. The cutting, stamping and piecing together all the different shades of papers so they make one page. I ended up finishing this page live over on my sandybeached Periscope.

In my Travellers Notebook...

I have been having a lot of fun lately using up some of the extra images that I had printed out from Index Card A Day or ICAD.  I really like using this craft coloured notebook insert from my travelers notebook. Using up my printed vintage images and just collaging bits and pieces together. I fill it in with stamps and washi tape. Just tearing book and dictionary papers and blending it all with vintage distress ink. I used a couple of my new items on this, stamps, tickets and washi tape.

This boat image was too big for my index cards and I did not want to cut it too fit. I had fun using all the tickets and trying to kind of tell a story on the pages.

On this one I had a bit of a butterfly and bee theme. I love using numbers and tags. I typed the quote on my old typewriter. "Whatever makes your soul happy do that."

I made a small pocket out of book paper so I could have my tag hanging out of the side. I have these cool bee trinkets, so I had to add one of those. 

Images are from the graphics fairy and some of the bees are from ephemera vintage garden.

ICAD 2018

Over on Daisy Yellow this year. I joined in on the ICAD or Index Card a Day challenge. It is a 61 day challenge over the months of June and July. This is just a few of the cards from this months challenge.  I really enjoy the daily art making. It seems to inspire me to make even more art. 

For these cards, I used my small Gelli plate. 

Decoart acrylic paints. 

TCW, Dylusion and Andy Skinner stencils.

ATC's and Postcards...

Napkin art is such fun to do. I had these awesome napkins with butterflies and dragonflies and that blue was just lovely. Using some Decoupage glue I placed it onto some card stock then cut it up to be 4 ATC and 2 postcards. 

I used some of printed quotes on my coffee stained papers for the quotes, thought they looked good on the blue. 

Adding some of the Decoart Crackle paste really added some great texture. Rubbing in some of the Decoart Media Antiquing cream really made the cracks stand out.

Today I choose Happiness...

Hi all, I have been wanting to get my sewing machine out and sew in my art journal for a while so this week it was time to do just that. 

I got 2 dictionary pages out and glued them on to a piece of cardstock with Helmar Decoupage and craft paste. Then I painted them with different blues in Decoart Americana paints. I used 4 different blues and blended them also with white to get different variations. Added some circles with a stencil from TYPO. 

I bought this wonderful word papers on clearance at Kaisercraft and could not wait to use it. So it went on the background over the piece of Hessian that I had added some gesso and paint.  I also bought the paper with the quote on, It was a 12 x 12 sheet with all different quotes cards.

In my art journal..

Thought I would add more of the art journal pages that I have been doing in the last few weeks on to my blog for you all to see. These are all painted with Decoart Americana paints.

Stencils and random circles. Doodled hearts and splatters.

Andy Skinner stencil and Finnabair stamped heart. Music paper collage.

I am having a great time just playing with colour, paint and stencils and just having fun with it all.

Wood Art Bookmarks.

I have been raiding our wood box again.  We have a wood fire and we get wood off cuts from a friend who builds staircases. When the wood gets inside I am always finding bits that I want to paint on. This time it was these thin strips of wood.
They are approx 8 3/4 inches, (22 cm) length by 1 inch, (2 1/2 cm) wide. They are quite thin ranging from about 2 mm.

I sanded the edges first and then it was just a layer of DecoArt Media Gesso and I was ready to let my imagine take over as to what to put on them.

I painted a tree for the background of the owls.  Then I drew 3 owls on book paper and painted the inside, cut them out and used my Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste to glue them on the branches. Then when this was dry I drew the faces and outlined the owls.

I painted the cat and flowers with DecoArt Americana paints adding a little bit of stenciling with a TCW stencil for interest on the background.

For the third one I painted the background then used my Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste to glue some half circles of book paper on. Then I doodled around the book paper to make flowers.  I filled in the petals with white Gesso.

I then got the fan brush out and did splatters (fun stuff) with watered down white Gesso on 2 and added black Gesso splatters to the flowers.
I then sealed them all with 2 coats of  Helmar Crystal Kote Matte Spray this keeps them sealed and protected from fading, yellowing and dust.
I think this project would work well with those wooden paint stirrers too.

A Girl and her Cat...

Today for the Helmar Creative Team and I go into more details over there.  I re-created an art journal page that I had recently done and I really liked the colour and design of and thought it would be nice to have it on my wall in my art room.

I have not changed this much, but I did not just want to have a copy from my printer on my wall. I liked the way the girl looked with her dress. I had no problem with painting the cat or the flowers again as I have been doing those a lot. I just liked the shape of the girl and the way the dress looked. So thought I would copy her on my printer from my art journal and pop her on the painted background. So I painted the whole background of the spread again on a canvas with the cat. I just used the same DecoArt paints and blended the colours the same way.

I made a copy of my art journal page and with the Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste I spread it on the back of the fussy cut girl and on the painted canvas.

 Using the paint and glue spreader I smoothed out all the bubbles.

I am happy that I can now hang this on my wall and see it and it's not only in my art journal. Now I am looking at what else I have in my art journals that I might like to copy and pop on my wall.
