Letter Journals

I thought I would show you what I have been working on since September last year when I joined a facebook group for letter journals. It's been fun and I have met so many fabulous people. I joined this group and when I did I thought everything I do I am just going to have fun with. No pressure just fun stuff and I really have had some fun. Some letter journals have themes but the ones I love the most are just the free style ones that I can just paint what I feel like on the day. So here are some samples of the work I have done in the 5 letter journals that I have done so far. I love my Decoart Acrylic paints and think that shows up in my letter journals.

These are the 5 filled letter journals that I have filled with some lovely art work from all over Australia, America and Canada.

The following art is all mine that I have either done in my letter journals before sending them off or in other people's letter journals.

I made my own stickers with my printer and joined them up with some fun pen work.

Think this one is my favourite cover of a letter journal.

The theme to this one was inspirational quotes.

Spring themed letter journal.

I had these numbers on my desk from a Typo bag it was a bingo card so I cut them up and collaged them on.

Flower theme.

Painted some gum tree flowers for an Australian themed letter journal

I really enjoy this group and can see me getting quite a collection over the next year. I am currently in 3 more letter journal groups one international and 2 Australian. There is a maximum of 4 people in the group and it takes a few months for the international ones to get posted around.

A Girl and her Cat...

Today for the Helmar Creative Team and I go into more details over there.  I re-created an art journal page that I had recently done and I really liked the colour and design of and thought it would be nice to have it on my wall in my art room.

I have not changed this much, but I did not just want to have a copy from my printer on my wall. I liked the way the girl looked with her dress. I had no problem with painting the cat or the flowers again as I have been doing those a lot. I just liked the shape of the girl and the way the dress looked. So thought I would copy her on my printer from my art journal and pop her on the painted background. So I painted the whole background of the spread again on a canvas with the cat. I just used the same DecoArt paints and blended the colours the same way.

I made a copy of my art journal page and with the Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste I spread it on the back of the fussy cut girl and on the painted canvas.

Using the paint and glue spreader I smoothed out all the bubbles.

I am happy that I can now hang this on my wall and see it and it's not only in my art journal. Now I am looking at what else I have in my art journals that I might like to copy and pop on my wall.

Linking this up with Paint Party Friday and off to see what you have all been up to this week.

Have a great day

A girl and her cat..

Recently I did this trying out something that I had not tried with the Acrylic paints. I normally do this technique with watercolours but not with acrylic paints.

I sat down and just drew straight on the paper pages, no Gesso first. I love drawing those cats. This one looks very quizzical. I always sketch in my sketch book, drawing what I feel like at the time but not in my art journal. Well I draw in my art journal but it is always over the top of a background, then add gesso and then paint the image I am going to have on the top. That is what I did different this time.  I drew in my art journal and then I added the paints, like I would with watercolour. Leaving a white gap around all the drawing. I really like the way the white is around everything. I blended about 4 colours of DecoArt Americana paints into the background trying to give it some interest. Then of course I added some splatters of white on the top. Added some dangles in the corner, I love doing those and they seem to pop up on a page here and there in my art journal.

Hope you enjoyed seeing a page in my art journal. I am busy working on the ICAD challenge and will pop the next 10 of those up this Friday.

Have a great day

Happy...

Playing around in my art journal with my favourite DecoArt coloured paints. I like trying out all different flowers and adding little bits of doodling with my pens. Everything seems to get a few dangles on it lately too. Did a few versions of this, was very relaxing to just draw and paint and then add the doodling, just what I am needing at the moment.

and off to pop around and see what everyone else is up to this week.

Have a great week

She wanted to see the beauty...

I had to have another go at another girl today. I wanted to try to do hair a bit better. After looking at a few pins on Pinterest on how to draw hair. I saw that hair has wispy bits, yep of course it does. I had just never thought about that before. So many bits to a face until you go to draw or paint one you never think about.

I used DecoArt Americana paints in Ocean Blue and Vivid Violet for the background and used a brayer to paint it on. Then I used a stencil with Lemon Yellow for all the little flowers. I doodled around them with my black and white pen adding little highlights and dashes. Then it was time to draw my girl. I drew her then painted her in with DecoArt Media line Gesso so the next layers of colours stand out better. I used Deep Burgundy for her hair and then Flesh tone for her face with a tiny bit of the Deep Burgundy mixed into the Flesh tone to add some dimension to her face. I highlighted her nose and eyes with my white signo pen. Added little lines of black with my black pen, in her hair to add depth. I have been sketching a lot in a new small sketch book. Think all the eyes and faces I have been practicing drawing are really helping me to get more confidence with faces.

Have a great day
Sandy :)
