Denim Journal Cover

  Today I have a recycled denim journal cover I made using up some more of my old denim jeans. To check out more great tutorials head over to the Helmar Creative team Blog

I cut the denim fabic into pieces and sewed the leg of the jeans and the back pocket together to make one long length. I then ironed it flat so you get a nice seam. 

Then figure out how big you want your journal to be. Mine ended up being about 9 inch high x 6 inch wide. I wanted to keep the pocket on the front so that I could store pens in it.

Using the Helmar Fabric Glue spread it over the cardboard and press it on to the fabric. Smoothing it as you go. My denim is a bit stretchy so this was tricky but if you glue it bit by bit you will get it to work.

I cut the corners on the inside folding it over so it makes it neat and then put the  Helmar Fabric Glue on the fabric edges. Fold over onto the cardboard on the inside. Working the corners in neatly as you go.

 

I then grabbed some card stock and cut it to size. Using the Helmar Tacky Craft Glue I glued it to the inside, to cover up the edges of the fabric and make it neat. 

I threaded some of my paper beads on to some hat elastic and tied it in a knot so it fit around my journal. Then I can just thread my letter journals onto the elastic. I will be able to put a few in this. I will make a note book and a few blank journals for the inside so I have a all in one journal to suit me.

Crocheted daisies and a bag..

Well I have done crochet a lot over the years and thought I would crochet some flowers and decorate a bag for my pens. 

So the first thing I did using the Youtube tutorial from Happy Berry Crochet was crocheted three flowers. I just stopped the video and crocheted along with her. Don't you love Youtube.


I needed a bag to pop my pens in that will go in my handbag. So thought I would make one. You could skip this step and decorate any bag you have but I have a bag full of zippers a friend gave me, so it was nice to use one.  I made a triangular bag at a class a while ago when I went to a craft expo. It was much simpler to do a rectangular one. For the sizing, I just grabbed my pens and made it longer than that so they fit and thought it turned out ok. I was quite happy with my little bag.

So after my bag was sewn together. I grabbed my Helmar Fabric Glue and some buttons and glued the buttons in the center of my flowers. 

Then I popped some Helmar Fabric Glue on the back of my flowers and glued them to the top right hand side of my bag, pressing firmly. 

Of course you don't have to make the bag you could easily decorate anything with the same method. On a t-shirt would be cute or a headband. I hope I have given you some ideas to decorate something easily with Helmar Fabric Glue.

Home...

I have always liked the way Sandee Setliff does her signs and the shape of them.. So I asked Sandee for more details and then asked my husband if he could cut some out in some left over ply wood that we had, its not the same as what Sandee uses but I thought it would work, it was what we had and I like to recycle.. So he made me 4 of them, I have painted 3 so far. The others I will be posting after I take some more photos.. 

This one is done in acrylic paints..  I sponged the background with a baby wipe, used the Kaisercraft doily stencil to do the pink pattern. I then drew my design for the tree and painted that in with Gesso. The house is done with book paper and my Gelli plate. I did the windows and door with two of my hand carved eraser stamps. The quote is done on my typewriter ' A house is made of walls and beams. A home is made of Love and Dreams'. I popped some of my rolled paper beads and some wooden ones on the wire, just because I could.

With the button flowers, I stumbled across the perfect ones in a jar of mixed ones.  I was looking for pink ones and these say 'together' embedded in the actual button. So how perfect was that.. 

I really liked the way the swirls come up at the bottom to the house.. Its done in my favourite colours.  Americana sea breeze and vivid violet, to get the pink I just added white to the leftover vivid violet.. I put little bits of the valley colours on the house to blend it all in.. Bit of doodling in black and the signo white pen. The bird is in book paper too, just a scrap of blue.. 
I enjoyed doing this and don't think this will be my last house. I have looked and looked at houses that other people have done and put it on the to do list for so long, I am so glad that I finally got one done.

Recycling...

So I like unusual items on my desk to use for my crafting and this is my latest find.. Is it not the cutest little dog? His ears wiggle, he is supposed to be for Hors d'oeuvres. I saw this and instantly thought, wow that will be perfect to use for this...

So storing washi tape on his tail and drying rolled paper beads after glazing. He looks cute all spiky.
