Collage fun.

So I often get asked what do you do with the ICAD cards when you are finished with them. Well I like to copy them on my printer for collage. Such fun images to go in my collage art journals. I make the journals out of watercolour paper and have them for the size that they fit in my fauxdori. They are the Travelers notebook size.  I am in The Artstronauts Club it is fabulous for collage. Teesha is very generous with her wonderful collage sheets and I love cutting and piecing pieces together to make something new.

Thought I would show a bit of a progress shot in the picture below.
I got a bit stuck with this one and it was a few weeks before I came back to it and finished it off with the bird in the bottom left corner and the writing. More dots and lines a few more trees and it filled that big spot that at the time I had no idea what to do with.

It was a fun page and I have done another one that I will pop on my blog in the coming days,.

This is my Fauxdori that I made out of my old leather handbag. I just love the soft leather on this and I am glad I was able to reuse the leather. Its great to take with me in my handbag and slot different notebooks into as I need them.

Owl Wisdom and Helmar

This is a recent Art journal page that I had fun making for the Helmar Creative Team.

I painted my background just using a spatula. I just spread random colours of my favourite DecoArt paints over the pages. I added some stamping with a Prima stamp, newspaper print. Then in one of the same colours as the background I used the reverse chicken wire stencil to just give it some interest.

I drew the owl on some book paper in pencil that I had added a layer of Gesso and paint to. I spread the Helmar Decoupage and craft paste to the page and then on the back of the owl to glue him on the page. I did this to the hearts too just drew them on the painted paper cut them out and added them to the dangles on the left page.

I doodled around the owl going around him a few times and added some squiggles

I like to add dangles here and there to my pages. I added the quote in the middle as we all know that owls are very wise. This little owl started out on one of my index cards he was also on one of my Bookmarks a few weeks ago. I so enjoyed painting him that I thought he needed his own art journal page. Think he might have to go on a canvas next.

Hope I have inspired you to get out some book paper and a pencil. Draw some of your own little characters and add them to your next art journal page with Helmar Decoupage and craft paste.

I go into more detail with a list of everything I used over on the Helmar Creative Team page.

Fathers day and Helmar.

Hope all the Fathers had a wonderful day last Sunday. I have done a scrapbook layout that could be used for all those photos that were taken. I made this scrapbook layout for my daughter to use for her Husband. It's his very first Father's Day this year and with a new baby (my first Grandchild) I thought it would be nice for her to have a page that she just has to pop a photo on and it's done for her photo album. I used a free downloadable image on the page, just so you got an idea of what it would be like with a photo and finished.

For more information and details head over to the Helmar Creative Team page.

I used a Kaisercraft 12x12 sheet of scrapbook paper for the background. I added some Tim Holtz washi tape on top of that in 3 places just strips randomly. I then grabbed some cardboard and ripped the top layers off to show the corrugations. I inked this with the vintage paper distress ink. I used some tags and random papers from the Kaisercraft range 6 1/2 inch paper pad called 75 cents. There is tags and shaped papers in the back of the pack so these were perfect for this layout.  I inked all the edges with the distress ink so it all blended together. Some domino paper and scrabble papers from scraps of Kaisercraft papers just to add some other collage elements. The gears are a punch that I punched out in some scrap cardstock. The printables for the Fathers Day quote and the photo image are free printables and are available below.

I used the Helmar Acid Free Glue  on the back of the cardboard and all the papers. You need very little to get it all down well and the tip of the bottle is great and very easy to do thin lines of glue.

For dimension on some of the pieces I used the Helmar Liquid Scrapdots You need small amounts, just tiny blobs in a couple of places and do not push it down, so you get the dimension. Just lightly pop it in place.

Wood Art Bookmarks.

For more details, photos and a list of items used check out the Helmar Creative Team page.

I have been raiding our wood box again.  We have a wood fire and we get wood off cuts from a friend who builds staircases. When the wood gets inside I am always finding bits that I want to paint on. This time it was these thin strips of wood.
They are approx 8 3/4 inches, (22 cm) length by 1 inch, (2 1/2 cm) wide. They are quite thin ranging from about 2 mm.

I sanded the edges first and then it was just a layer of DecoArt Media Gesso and I was ready to let my imagine take over as to what to put on them.

I painted a tree for the background of the owls.  Then I drew 3 owls on book paper and painted the inside, cut them out and used my Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste to glue them on the branches. Then when this was dry I drew the faces and outlined the owls.

I painted the cat and flowers with DecoArt Americana paints adding a little bit of stenciling with a TCW stencil for interest on the background.

For the third one I painted the background then used my Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste to glue some half circles of book paper on. Then I doodled around the book paper to make flowers.  I filled in the petals with white Gesso.

I then got the fan brush out and did splatters (fun stuff) with watered down white Gesso on 2 and added black Gesso splatters to the flowers.
I then sealed them all with 2 coats of  Helmar Crystal Kote Matte Spray this keeps them sealed and protected from fading, yellowing and dust.
I think this project would work well with those wooden paint stirrers too.
