Nature...

I watched this great youtube video from Sandra van der Geest called Leap of Faith It was all magazine cut outs it was just such fun, I was so inspired, so I had to have a go.

I gathered lots of magazines and started cutting all these faces. I found some great bat images in a gardening magazine so used that for wings. Same magazine for my moth handbag. I had lots of fun cutting, sticking and pasting bits and pieces. I had trouble finding some legs till I found this great picture of a bonsai tree so that kind of told me what background to paint and ended up being my theme then for the whole piece.

I am going to enter this at the following.

Card 8... Key...

I know, I know, where is week 6 and 7 well I am a bit behind and will get to them but this key one insisted to be done before them.  As soon as the prompt for key came up I knew I wanted to use my lock and key movers and shapers die from Tim Holtz, so cut it out.. Then it has sat on my desk getting shifted around.. So today I made it a card to sit on.. The stamp is from Kaszazz and the houses are a stencil from crafters workshop called Mini Sweet Home...  So just a quick little card but that's what I like about these cards, they just slot into a bit of crafting time here and there..

Here is a Link to the video that Kelly popped up on the facebook page if you are interested in joining in. Take a look at the prompts something might just jump out at you and give you a little inspiration to make something..

Who she had always been...

I watched Sandee at Frosted designs Sundays with Sandee and thought yep have to have a go at this one.. It was a very busy weekend and I fitted this in with everyone dropping in to visit.. It was great to pop in and out of my little room and just do a bit here and there.. I just followed along with the steps but did my quote with my old faithful typewriter.. Quote is 'She knew this transition was not about becoming someone better, but about finally allowing herself to become who she'd always been'.

It was very relaxing to just stamp and paint. I had to change many things as I don't have many of the stamps or stencils Sandee used so I improvised with what I had and that is always the fun part.. I used Gesso and paint for my silhouette stencil it is from Typo. The stamp of the lady with the feather in her hat was a free one in a magazine, I do love the elegance of her.

What lies inside of you...

I was playing in my watercolour journal today after watching Tracy at Mixed Media Monday.  They where all talking about the weather and how horrible it is over there while Tracy was painting away.. Today here in Australia it is such a lovely day that I took my watercolours outside and painted this.. I took the picture on top of my seaside daisy it is so pretty out in flower all along my veranda at the moment, so thought I would brighten up those snowy and wet days and take my photo with some flowers in my background.
The quote today is 'What lies behind you and what lies in front of you. Pales in comparison to what lies inside of you'.  by Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Love Letter...

The prompt that got me doing another journal page this week is from Journal 52 week 6 'The art of love letters'. It's great how it gets me doing pages that I would not normally do, just from a prompt.  So stamps on this are all from Kaszazz.  Lots of dangles, swirls and white and red pen.. My letter is all scrunched up and then flattened sprayed with water and then more walnut stain ink.. I was kind of going for the thrown away love letter..

I do like the way the heart turned out. It was fun adding all the layers. I Gesso'd it, then Painted it red then embossed and rubbed back some of the red to expose the white Gesso.. Then I painted it with crackle and let it do its thing.. I love those embossed roses and the texture it created with the crackle...

I am entering this over at Inspiration Avenue
show and tell challenge..

Pipette Painting...

I have been watching Sandee Setliff from Sunday's with Sandee do these amazing paintings with a Pipette. This week Sandee did a wonderful tutorial showing us in detail how she does them.. Find it at Frosted designs pipettes anyone .

I thought I would show my little attempt at this technique.  Sandee makes it look so easy and I know this will take some practice.. I do like the blurry effects it creates.. The way the colours blend together you just have to let them, you don't have the control like you do with a brush.. I kind of thought it looked like some kind of Alien landscape so all the splashes at the top I drew legs on.. It certainly different, but hey it was a lot of fun...

Moments...

I was hunting around on Pinterest again and found a tutorial from Christy Tomlinson Its the 'love is in the air canvas tutorial' its in 2 parts and well worth watching, so many little tips.. I love the look of banners and this caught my eye.. So I had a go at creating my own with rubons and some scrap papers for the banners.. I did not have the lacy ribbon that she used above the banners but I have heaps of string, so I platted 3 together to make my rope for the banners.. Lots of doodling, those little squiggles look so easy but I always find them tricky.

This was a fun little project to do...

WOYWW #245

I followed along with Tracy from Tracy Weinzapfel Studios  Mixed Media Monday. This week she did watercolours so picked up a few more little tips to play with so after watching her live, I went off and did this in my watercolour book. Only 2 pages left now to do in this book.. I've just finished popping some words on it.  My word for the year making another appearance on there 'Explore'.  My well used watercolours are there too, they are too close together and they get so mucky have to wipe them with a paper towel to keep the colours out from each other.. I will invest in some better ones, as I am finding I love the bright watercolours, they are fun to use.. The cards on the left in the toast holder are for a card challenge on the Art aMUSEment facebook page a card every week for 52 weeks. That's what the times table card is sitting there for with its coat of Gesso.. So far I am kind of keeping up.. Many people commented on my mug tree last week with the scissors and tape, so showing the other one with the washi and twine that sits over on the left of me.. They are great to keep things up off your desk and in reach..

Julia from  WOYWW gets us all together every Wednesday to have a look at desks from all over the world.. Grab a cuppa, I have mine here, and take a browse.. Thanks for taking the time to comment and enjoy the blog hopping around all the desks.

Have a great day.

Card 5... Quote...

Was thinking about this, what quote to use? There are just so many great ones? Then I remembered I had this terrific stamp from the Tim Holtz Warehouse district stamp set.. I had not used cardboard with the paper pealed back before, was fun trying to add dimension to it with layers of paint and Gesso.. Used some bubble wrap with Gesso, isn't that the best stuff to add a little something. Sewed around it all with my sewing machine and added some brads.  I am finding these little cards are great for trying out new techniques.

So some details here about the facebook group called art aMUSEment, it is run by Kelly Hoernig.  Its a fun group and this year Kelly came up with the idea of picking 52 cards of the same size and doing a card with a theme every week so thought this would be a fun thing to do so I am going to join in. Well as many times as I can.
Here is a Link to the video that Kelly popped up on the facebook page. Take a look and maybe you might like to join in too..

Vases...

So after doing the last page of the cup of tea and pot.  I thought hmm I wonder if I can do a vase of flowers.. So I looked at a few images on google and got the shape of a vase.. Then looked at a few flowers in vases.. I kind of merged a lot together a bit from this one, a bit from that. A leaf from here and then some daisies, hope you recognize that is trying to be lavender, I love lavender..  It all came together and I ended up with the following sketches. Yea the photo's are not the best oh well.

So this is my sketches when I painted them in with my watercolours, just with the colours that I liked.. I wanted to keep the colours soft except I could not resist that dark purple vase.

So this was great to practice these.. I do like the daisy flowers and the thin stem and leaves in the top one.. In the bottom one I like those wispy black lines and the purple lavender..  Next time think I will combine the 2 of those and see what I get..

Tea...

This morning I was looking on facebook and I saw Tracy's great post on her facebook Tracy Weinzapfel Studios page about doing a  watercolour with her morning cup of tea. You can see her great page Here (remember to press the like button).  I have been looking at cups and mugs of coffee that people had been doing.. So thought I might have a go at that..

So I sketched it in and painted it with watercolours, those shading marks with pen are harder to do than they look, I need lots more practice on those.. I was looking at it and thought ok so my background is missing something it was just a bit blank.. Yep it needed a picture on the wall but what of?  So popped a purple frame on the wall and did a picture of...dangles of course.. The quote is "Life is like a cup of tea... It's all in how you make it..."

Follow your Heart..

I had this background done and sitting on my desk. I did it by blobbing dobs of paint on and then swiping it down with a card. Today I thought what stencil have I not used yet and came up with TCW 6x6 Mini Arrows and Hearts designed from Ronda Palazzari. So just stenciled away and blended in blue distress ink with my blending tool. Filled in some of the arrows and hearts with doodling, what a fun little stencil.. Then thought ok now what? hmm I know pop a red heart in the middle and have arrows going to it and away from it.  The whole time I was doing all the arrows I knew the quote I wanted to use on here..  'Follow your heart it knows the way'.. So typed that up on my trusty old typewriter.

Have fun and play...

I missed Limor Webber live today was so looking forward to it but hey, there is heaps to watch, that she has already recorded that are on Youtube.. So I selected this Great video.. I watched the first part and thought yes must use my sprays more for backgrounds.. It was the second page she did at the end that said 'hey try me!!' It was just a quick page and Limor said to play and just have fun with it.  So thought yep that's just what I need to do, to learn how to use these Gelatos more.. Well mine are not Gelatos they are Monte Marte Australian brand called Pastel Gliders..

I found they are great to use very smooth and creamy and very bright colours, love that grape purple colour. They blend really well with water.. So I learned a great lesson today. That not everything has to take ages to do (this was so quick and fun) and to not over think things when I am still learning how to use so many products..

Have a great day

WOYWW #244

I have missed the last 2 WOYWW but I have been busy in my new room sorting things and working in my art journal..  I moved my desk away from facing the window so the window is at the side of me, I can see things I am working on so much better now.. I just have to move everything else now. So what have I on my desk today?  My art journal is there and another page that is just a background at the moment on the right there.  Some little glass bottles that I found today they will be fun to use on some altered projects.  More little brads and clips, on sale still so could not pass them up..

Look what I found at the second hand shop today ideal for my sprays might encourage me to use them more being out like this. Its sturdy enough to have on the ground like this or I could hang it when I finally figure out how I want my room to be..

My husband made me 4 ribbon holders they are on the top of this shelf here.. I painted them my favourite colour turquoise. They are so much better here than in the draw I had them in they kept coming undone and getting tangled.

Smile :)

While I was watching Tracy at Mixed Media Monday today and she started drawing flowers. I thought oh I might try drawing flowers on book paper and colouring them in with my water colour crayons while I am watching. So gathered up what I needed and did 5 flower, still have one left. I had seen these done by Jenniebellie on an earlier video Here with pencils and had been wanting to try that out.. Have seen Tracy do them before as well. They where fun and know I will do them again as they are something that can be done with just a few supplies anywhere.. I had in my mind prompt 3 that I am up to with Journal 52  'You always make me smile'. What makes me smile? Flowers and bright colours always make me smile. :)
